The Swiss economy

Gross domestic product grew by 1.5% in the second quarter of 2026, its strongest rise since the third quarter of 2021.

Growth

After +0.5% in the first quarter, GDP adjusted for sporting events grew by 1.5%. The chemical and pharmaceutical industry rebounded by 10.5%; value added also rose in many other sectors (SECO).

Prices

In August 2026 the consumer price index stands at 101.5 points (December 2025 = 100). It is up 0.4% on the month and 0.8% on the year (FSO).

Languages

German is the main language of 62% of the resident population, French of 23%, Italian of 8%, Romansh of 0.5% (FSO).
